A piece in memory of Wolf Biermann and his stunning poem 'Ermutigung'. Thinking of 1968 and the weird year of 2016. Things rebound, and karma is a female dog.

karma visited Australia

in the time of nails
stand upright
erect not defenses
but bridges

in the time of nails
breathe deeply
the blows will recoil
like a boomerang

in the time of nails
there will be pain
tear gas and injustice
as we build boats

in the time of nails
you put the hammer down
pulse doing 80 in a 50 zone
palms bare and outward

in the time of nails
it helps to remember
that when hammered down
you hold things together

in the time of hammers
I have a dream
a memory of green
forgiveness of those

who know not what they do
what goes down
must come up
like a playground teeter

"i'd rather be a hammer than a nail," but no. each to their own identify, what point has a nail without its hammer? Sixty-eight, fighting the good fight. good images here. we said, "if you want peace, fight for justice." words? there is idealism here, in your words. that's good, right?
