For a friend who gave me hope and love.

Sleepless Sleep

In a fog, sometime in September,
Soft songs on the radio,
His life ended in a cluttered field
Just minutes from home.

Too fast was the car, too fast his life gone.
Drunken dreams whisked his soul into the dark.
Tomorrow came never again, and today died.
The wall of life crumbled down and down.

Night and Time stood still, moaning as the chill
Of Death claimed his soul, his beautiful eyes,
And the friend I still need to find as I sleep.
No kiss, and no hug. Just sleepless sleep.

So moving. There is so much waste of life in this world. Too many tears and so much loss.

Such loss remains even through the years
our words echo with poignant longing
each phrase, each line seeking to hush our fears
