The palm fronds used on Palm Sunday the year previous are burned to produce the ashes marking the faithful’s foreheads on Ash Wednesday.


Ash Wednesday

Palm fronds of glory
Burned to prove
That life is nothing
More than ashes
The soul however
Soars as smoke
From its fire.
