My very first--and spontaneous--attempt at accentual-syllabic poetry from my junior year of high school done in fulfillment of an assignment for Mrs. Quesenberry's Advanced Composition class (all these years ago).

Fragment II

Splashing, thrashing, wildly crashing
rages the rolling sea
like a half-tortured serpent swirled
in waves of misery!

Through this tempest and angry night,
a vessel from afar
sails by the dim, faint, speckled glow
of heaven's compass star.

Love the phonetic cohesion of both the stanzas, especially the "splashing, thrashing, crashing" line.

There is power and economy in these lines. Very good indeed! And it made me think of an old Latin saying "Respice stellam": look to the star!
