the unexpected

half moon tipped on its belly

bright

in the clear midnight sky   quadrantids expected

in the pre-dawn hours

now

in the pre-dawn hours   a haze of overcast

obscures the stars   wrapped in a quilt against the chill

listening

to the breeze

a distant dog barking

a tree branch touching and not touching the gutter   now

chilled

a little disappointed   but content with the unexpected

listening

Nice! You've captured the feeling of being outside before dawn when you're in the country.
