listen

to the silver spoon stirring the tea

in a fine china cup   stirring

around and around   the sound of a silver spoon

tinkling against the side of a fine china cup

around and around   stirring

close your eyes   listen to the sound of the spoon

tinkling against the side of a fine china cup

around and around   stirring

around and around   the silver spoon stirring the tea

close your eyes   listen   what do you hear   the sound

of a silver spoon   stirring   tinkling

against the side of the cup as it stirs the tea   around and around

close your eyes   what do you hear

close your eyes   what do you see   who do you see

The repetitions actually work well. They give a Zen-like feel to the poem. Readers are urged to listen . . . intently . . . as the stanzas unfurl.
