Written to the prompt “Proof that I made it.”

A Low Vibration

There is nothing I’ve gotten over…
completely.

I have moved on,
gone around,
snuck past,
waited in silence
hoping that in the quiet
the murmur would die down,
a low vibration
I learned to live around.

I remember the circumstances -
of words spit out with venom
meant to kill my spirit,
of fists pounded with fury
meant to silence my opinions,
of intrusive thoughts circling endlessly,
keeping me weak,
fragile,
stuck.

Did I cry tears of anger,
imagine vengeance in the darkness of night
when I could not see the stars
through the clouds in my eyes?

Did I weep tears of fear,
imagine death in the darkness of night
when I could see the stars
and imagined rising to meet them?

Oh yes I did.

But clouds cleared and stars shone.
Steady voices pulled me back,
cleared the haze of hurt,
vanquished the anger,
evaporated the self-doubt,
until I remembered that no one
has the power to destroy me…

unless I let them.

A powerful piece. I like that it has a positive ending.
