scar tissue
"scar tissue"
its cadence broke where skin forgets
— a calcified perimeter of white.
It wears the vigilant malice of oaks,
Concealing bone beneath creaking armour,
A mask smelted slowly in the forge of light
To keep its soft, interior beast from harm or
Unwelcome touch; a shell grown tight and stark,
Dividing living tissue from dark forces.
