Like the way you take a feeling and give it a little stage of its own. The idea that sorrow is made somewhere below us and then raised up for us to inhabit is a tidy and theatrical way to express truth. Thoroughly enjoyed, mate. 👍🏻🕊️

This has a strange, theatrical gloom that works. The image of sad little men beneath the world, hoisting stories up on thin lines of lost hope, is both eerie and oddly tender. It makes sorrow feel like something manufactured below and then performed above. The poem is short and tidy, but that tidiness also keeps it from sinking too deep. The final line explains the metaphor just a little too cleanly. Letting the image hang without the summary might leave a stronger ache. Still, the mood is memorably strange.

I believe I resemble this poem although I am not a sad little man, but an old woman, struggling with morbid and somber thoughts that lead to sorrow written into lines of poetry.
