My First Last Love

I meant it when I said to you: This life
Brought meaning to me through your existence.
You were the first who took the offered knife
And slit my lids, gave sight, and ever since

I’ve seen with gratitude. I fell for you
Harder with every inch my eyes could sup.
From hair to face, breasts, thighs and legs. Toes too.
You were a feast I had to gobble up.

But see, I’ve seen the rest as well and found
Delight in everyone who’s passed me by.
My eyes have turned wet jaws that chomp around
Yet still my stomach growls. I cannot lie.

I know I said you’d be my last love but
You’re more the first. I’ve bloomed. Let’s nip this bud.

There are some really powerful metaphors in this, Sameen. Really powerful. Your lover using the knife to open your eyes, for example: Really novel. Blessings, Allen

first, I thank you for your 15 comments and for some you have lifted my poems to an extent I couldn't expect on my own
then about this overall, I like the acute use of words, many love poems fall flat but not in this one, I could figure easily that a woman reading this poem for her would fall in love even deeper with the poet

Rather sad. Unable to be satisfied. The knife and eye lids comparison suggests materialness and nothing deeper. An interesting piece.
