Dear Sameen, don't focus on peeps like that- they do not make up the whole of the world. I speak from experience. I lost a home in one and know the fear of fleeing it, water up ti Robbie's waist on our street transformed into a river. Our daughter lives in the mountains and was there when Helene hit. They didn't lose their home but were trapped and supplies had to be brought in by helicopter. And we had no communication for several days and had no way to know their fate for many days. There is the event and the aftermath. In both events, we lost several friends. Both good and bad people show up. The rest just sit on a fence oblivious. I care very much. Sameen, you are wrong to think no-one cares! This is a catastrophe of unimaginable verocity. I've seen it on many European (PLURAL) TV news reports and prayed for all those who were injured and who perished; all those who have lost homes, livings, possessions, partners, parents, children... This is too cynical. Please don't assume no one cares. Since getting to know you and Bibek Nepal has become real to me, not just a distant place on a map. The contribution I made today may have been small, but it came from the heart. I am sure I am not alone in caring, the will to be generous is strong. My thoughts go out to those in need.

I think many people genuinely care. Others think these things only happen to other people (you know, the ones on TV). There is so much going on in the world now that we become immune to these things unless they hit us. You describe the feeling of individual disgust very well. I am glad you are safe.

Here in North Carolina, Hurricane Helene killed hundreds of people, destroyed buildings homes, businesses and made an interstate highway impassible for almost a year. The massive rains, 30 plus inches of rain brought creeks to rivers and rivers to devastation. No one has an accurate body count. The region in the NC mountains around Asheville, people are still living in tents , sheds or any other form of temporary housing you can name. The storm occurred in September 2024. I personally saw the devastation after the storm. There are no words to describe the destruction. I am glad you survived, genuinely glad. Keep us updated on your status and your countries status.
