This is a poem I wrote describing a situation in my life both difficult and happy. Especially Happy.

The Old Country

She rearranges the furniture
Like rearranging her heart
If you shove the wound in the corner
The eye is always drawn to it

I start on the downbeat
I've got your attention
For the moment
All I get are messages from God
That the world wants my attention
Didn't know I was that important
Thought I could disappear

Into a dream of red barn country
My old country, the people who stayed
And you diving naked, a freshwater seal
into the nearest lake

It's no good
I get dragged back here kicking and screaming
(that comes next)
I want to think about you
I want to dream about us
So many grubby hands
Pulling on my apron strings

The difference between us
Your nightmares come at night
and mine visit in daylight
bringing flowers.

This is like a glimpse into your soul Anne. Back into your memories of childhood and realities of the here and now. This is awesome.
