I love listening to the songs of Pete Seeger who, I believe, celebrated a big birthday recently. I discovered recently that my late father tried to enlist to fight in the Spanish Civil War but my mother wouldn't let him.

Viva Mum, Dad and Pete Seeger

Dad, I'm humming Spanish in time
With the words of Pete Seeger,
He's praising the bravery of the
International Brigade, shout
'Viva La Quince Brigada',
'Viva La Quince Brigada'.

Pete Seeger is a hero of mine,
Ever since I heard 'Little Boxes',
Dad, I hear you wanted to go
And fight in Spain, to fight
In the International Brigade,
The Fifteenth Brigade, shout
'Viva La Quince Brigada',
'Viva La Quince Brigada'.

Dad, you are a hero of mine,
But if you'd gone to fight in Spain
Like many of the brave Americans who
Joined the Abraham Lincoln Brigade,
The glorious 57th battalion,
You may not have come home,
Save in a little box.

And this celebratory poem
Would not have been written.

Viva mum, viva mum!

Chris...interesting write
I was originally attracted by its title, as when a teen-ager,
a million years ago, I was a big Pete Seeger fan...

so, thanks for the memories
