My step-father was a man of few words and few deeds but when he spoke or acted it was a profound moment.

The ascent of man

Hughie's base camp was the lounge sofa,
Where he would lie thinking of the bigger picture,
And when he had reached a pinnacle of thought
He would say 'Goodnight', climb slowly up the stairs,
Until he reached 'Everest'.
