It's a good thing he'll never read this or he'd think I was a stalker. (I live above a laundromat. It has a soda machine that dispenses YooHoo.)

Ode to My Landlord

Dan, Dan, the Fix-it Man
Drives an old white Astro van
Services broken machines
Paints in nothing but his jeans!
Dan used to run a massage school
( I think that is very cool
But makes me ponder sneakily
If he'd ever massage me)
Tired of wearing shirt and tie
He bid his massage school good bye
And now he wears a different hat
And works at that and this (and THAT!)
And one hat is to take the rent
(So that's where all my money went!)
(That's really just a little joke
Sort of like a Facebook poke)
Dan smiles with eyes of startling blue
As he downs a cold Yoo-hoo
And asks me how my day has been
And puts away a laundry bin
And now I have a wicked crush
But that don't matter (well, not much)
Because the time is really wrong
And so I sing my bluesy song.

Wonderful. I think the measure of a good poet is the ability to bring the reader into their world. And you have done that so well. I wonder if Dan will ever know?

I completely agree with Fog on this. I love your style and rhythm. I can clap my Hand in time as I read this! There's a confident joyous quality that bursts through this whole piece. Well done, Nancy!

There is a refreshing sort of sly innocence and wry whimsy about this one doesn't come across much these days, and a sense this is someone who loves her life and appreciates the people in it.
