In The Shadow Of

Silken feathers dripping tears in the shadow of her sighs
Old grey dreams come to light in the hollow of her palm
The world replays a silent film the sets and actors drift
Like footless ghosts or costumed hosts looking for a gift,
The kiss of Night enters stage left on a woman's willowy limb
With almost infinite care as though nothing more to share
She strikes a jasmine smoke, all the extras go for broke
Until some behind the scenes defector wakes, action cries !
Silken feathers dripping tears in the shadow of her sighs . . .
