Memoranda

Get the deer ducking behind serious trees
in the starlit graveyard.
Get squirrels scampering between headstones
under indigo skies.

Get the first cup of morning coffee down
as you sit typing early drafts.
Get September's teeming crickets
and their sharp slices of noise in the night.

Get the way the light in the kitchen
is a faint sepia scowl.
Get how the coffee-maker breathes out steam,
sighs for relief every few minutes or so.

Go to church. Don't go to church. Either way.

Notice things. Notice the big old world
in its holy and rambunctious variety.
Notice people and prize them for who they are.
