So troubled is the soul sometime that you question your very existence on this Earth, your purpose in life, the use of your being in this Universe....

WHO AM I?

("Shall man be even as the foam/ that sits an instant on the ocean's face/ and is taken by the passing breeze-/And is no more?" Kahlil Gibran)

Who am I?
What am I?
A dot on Earth,
A speck in the scheme of universe...

A grain of sand
Blown by the wind,
From land to land...

A piece of cloud
Risen from earth
Floating endless in the sky
Melting in few drops of rain
Back to earth in similar vein...

A tender leaf,
First green and fresh,
Now yellowing with golden hue,
Clinging still to the bough
Of life,
Of use to very few!
Who knows?
What might ensue?

A dewdrop
On a blade of grass,
Here now &
With the first ray of the sun,
Evaporate into thin air,
Gone, never to reappear
In short-lived moments of life,
(Life hanging in the air),
Will I shine a while?
Break the rays of Sun into
Multicoloured rainbow bright,
Or just perish, disappear,
Long before that?

A comet hurled
From the sky
Strike the earth,
Become a star in the sky,
A planet around the sun,
A far cry...
Or simply disintegrate
To dust in the sky...

Who knows? But my end is near...
Will I shine a last time?
Before the heavens claim me
Back into their fold?

What am I?
Who am I?
Why am I?

Just to exist...
And soon to die...?

Nice! The start of the journey is filled with questions, once the course is determined the mind will accept and the journey begins!

I think that your profession as a Doctor and still having the humility to see that we are all just mere mortals as expressed in your beautiful poem, is remarkable. It is fair to say that you are one of the few who has not mastered only the contents of books but has mastered the "true meaning of life." I think your humility should be an inspiration that help others to overcome "vanity". As Charles H. Spurgeon [1835-1892] wrote; "Vain are the sharp swords of infernal malice and the perpetual battles of the Serpent's seed, for in the midst of the church the lame take the prey and the feeblest of warriors are crowned." Another great poem!

Inked.
Zoya, this is simply AMAZING, it does indeed appeal to my nature =]

It's so full of wonder, and a sense of sadness. I am almost afraid of the way it forces me to think and consider who I really am. I feel like we shouldn't be allowed to ask these questions, but we always will.

And I love the rhymes inserted here and there, it does wonders for the flow.

Very beautiful poem. And so philoshopic.
Millions people ask this question and asked to himself during millenniums. I do not know, whether somebody could answer completely.

What an excellent poem. You eloquently echo the question that everyone has asked themselves thousands of times. And every time there still isn't an answer...

Incidentally, Kahlil Gibran is one of my favorite authors of all time. The prefacing lines from him really made your text all that much more enjoyable. You did the quote justice.

I agree with the insights here. We are interconnected within a great mystery, which we have yet to work out. But we are 'bugged-out' by our alienation to it.

A beautiful mystic poem.

Thank you sister!

Again - the virtual world as you tried to explain - explain? How is it explained? The moral of every mankinds mind that stirs at the end of each branch of white colours.

This is a brilliant poem - making yourself seem smaller and as if you're less important in any ethnics.

Now, hold on a second! Who are you to question yourself? Who are you to question ourselfs? Who in the world gave you permission to write these powerful words and put me in the middle of my own life, now lurking deeper, to understand why I am here, my purpose, and of course "who am I"?. Well, guess who? Give this task to the beauty of Zoya, to come out and in a few verses distract us of our own "comfort zone", and get us all stirred up! You are awesome! Your write keeps intriguing me. It keeps me in perspective. How do you keep writing with such flair, and not skip a beat? Thanks, you are a wonderful person!
