Here is a little ditty in honour of PoetBay. Written as a prelude to our Scilly collection, it is also our way of thanking the PoetBay persons for maintaining a place where we are able to be ourselves (-:>)

Trip to the côte

We had been in the workshop for almost a year,
posting solely as poet FT;
poet Coo had been offline yet not without cheer
as she helped with rhymes, studiously.

But one day came the rough realisation, quite quick,
that FT was not having much fun;
we'd spent hours in answering crit mix-and-pick,
watching most of our verse come undone.

'We are covered in dust!' Coo announced; she was right –
the result of twelve months in the shop,
where advices are shed every morn noon and night,
and we've only the modest-est mop.

So FT sidled out, meeting Coo in the yard
on the bow of a poppy-print boat,
and Coo chirped, 'Climb aboard – we have worked very hard –
it is high time we tripped to the côte!'

Ocean waves gathered round us and swept us away
with a flock of grey gulls at our stern,
seals to starboard and port, all exclaiming, 'Hooray!'
and above us, a twinkly-eyed tern.

And the dust was washed off by the billowing breeze
as we reached the côte, singing our tunes,
while the birds made their beds in the treasury trees
and the sun settled over the dunes.

Oops! We lost a few words from our intro. Essentially we wrote this after a spell at a not entirely pleasant poetry workshop. Hoo, hoo, hoo! :>o (apologies; we are rather poorly)
