le sel/the salt

le mot salaire et le mot sel ont la même racine
et historiquement, cela se tient
les anciens étaient payés avec du sel
et la transpiration est salée (clin d'oeil)
mais alors
l'inflation du sel, c'est quand le sel devient
de plus en plus cher et donc plus le prix du sel
augmente, moins il faudrait transpirer pour
gagner la même chose ou je me trompe?

The word "salary" and the word "salt" have the same root,
at least in French...
and historically, that makes sense.
The ancients were paid with salt,
and sweat is salty (wink).
But then,
salt inflation is when salt becomes
more and more expensive, so the more the price of salt
increases, the less one would need to sweat to
earn the same amount, or am I mistaken?
