I wanted to appeal to people's senses, I wanted to become an artist, whereas the scientist adheres to the veracity of their demonstrable inventions, verifiable by instruments. You may not like what they do, but if what they do works, you cannot object to their creation. However, if you make a chocolate cake, everyone is free to appreciate or not appreciate your work according to their tastes. This ultimately always puts you in a delicate position, where your livelihood depends on what people think of your work. The scientist, however, does not have this problem.
