Perhaps I'm Mistaken
I'm entertaining the thought that she'sBetter off since I left her. She probably
Is. Now, she needn't feel guilty when
She's with her boyfriend. There's no
Second man tempting her with his
Love. There's no wife in the background
For her to betray, and no fear of
Discovery. Neither her mother nor
Anyone else will observe us together,
And wonder why someone so young
Would meet secretly with one so old.
I can see how she should be relieved
By my absence. Even so, I hope
I'm wrong.
