Good News, Citizen
There was no flood, they tell us now.“Rumors, meant to harm the state,”
The man behind the lectern said,
Demanding that we doubt our eyes.
The living room's a sea of mud,
Our water-damaged chairs and
Tables piled outside, in the yard.
A TV station truck drove by. The
Well-known woman in it briefly
Glanced, but then it drove away.
I called an agency for help. Was
There a place for us to go? The
Woman had me wait on hold.
When she returned, she
Reassured me. “There has been
No flood.”
