Hurts To Tell

When you like someone so much it almost hurts to tell
How much you feel like an old Hollywood film reel going
Round the heartbreak wheel in a dark theater
Staring at the flaking gilt ceiling another lonely spectator
Dreaming of what was never truly known
Sitting in the dark crying blues all alone,
Once your favourite character actor met his perfectly flawed woman there
She was glowing against the barroom mirror like a lovely pale star
Shining all through the sighing night for all the world to gasp in Love
Signing astral floral bouquets with the inkwells at her elbows
When suddenly the film always breaks and the shivering midnight screen
Fills with silver snows and something leaks out from between bleak canals deep as well
When you like someone so much it almost hurts to tell . .
