Flatlander
I spent my one day in the mountains,Drove eleven hours, climbed 10,000 feet
To see the sunrise bathe the pines
And naked peaks. I stayed in winter-
Ravaged Leadville, so high up I couldn't
Breathe. I got dead drunk with all my
Cousins, toppled off a folding chair.
I had my fun and filled my eyes,
Then drove back down to searing heat
And prairie, to the low horizon.
I enjoyed my day up there,
But like it better here.
