A Year and a Half in 23 Lines

She chattered at me madly then,
The day of the bowling date she'd
Planned, spring of the calendar
And our love. She showed me her
Phone. She wanted me near,
But the others arrived, and she
Chattered no more. She bowled
Poorly, and, though that meant
Nothing to me, she sulked. She
Lingered, still stifled by others,
When we were done. That was
The spring. Summer came.
She drew close to me once,
But shortly afterward withdrew.
Fall turned to winter. She vanished
Through spring and then summer,
But, suddenly, fall has arrived,
Calendar fall and fall of our love.
The air has grown cool. The leaves
Drop from the trees, and she looks
Sometimes, when she thinks
I don't see her, but now she says
Nothing at all.
