La La Land

I saw a movie yesterday, a vision
That made me think of us, as
I always had hoped we'd be.
A man and woman fell in love.
They sang and danced, and helped
Each other realize their separate
Dreams. These dreams led them
To drift apart, but, in the end,
They met by chance, and somewhat
Sadly celebrated both the love that
Hadn't died, and what they had
Achieved, and this sweet vision
Conjured one in me when I had
Gone to sleep. You offered me
A ride somewhere. I turned
To kiss you on your cheek.
You didn't flinch. I kissed again,
And we embraced, and then lost
Track of where we meant to go,

But in the morning's dismal light,
I see us how we long have been.
You could have sung the songs
They did. You could have learned
Their pretty steps, but you have
Thrown away your dreams,
And seem to huddle in a hole.
My dream is this, to write these
Songs, but nothing is what I've
Achieved. From here, in my
Separateness, I grieve because
My love won't die. You keep
Away from me.
