Surprise!

She showed up unexpectedly. I heard
Her knock and slowly rose, anticipating
Finding someone lost or bent on selling
Things. Nobody ever comes out here.
She chirped when we were face to face,
And crashed into me like a football
Player, head into my chest, looked up
And started kissing me. In time, I took
Her coat and gloves, and led her to
The sofa to explain herself. Why was
She here? She said she'd tired of being
Far away. She'd tired of sadness,
Lonely nights. She wanted to retrieve
Her joy, and would if she flew back to me.
I told her my life also had been dull, but
She had ended that, and I'd been filled
With happiness, quite unexpectedly.
