Pondering the Corrosive Power of a Single Word
Must what has gone unsaid remain that way,Though it's quite obvious? These days have
Passed so pleasantly. We walk among
This city's treasures, never at a loss for words.
We dine, we mock, we stand in awe, together,
And we part like magnets, so unwillingly,
An invitation looming near: “Why don't you
Stay and sleep with me?” We both, I think,
Sense what this means, and I stay up at night,
And wonder, would what is be ruined
By my saying, “I love you?”
