Driving in the Dismal Season

Freeway
Free Way
Freedom...
Not really
Boredom...
Absolutely
Relieved only by
Servicecentres
Service Centre
Bad coffee and worse
Service
Centre of nowhere
This morning
On the verges and medians
The evidence of last night's
Unwanted snow
Incumbering the pines
Whose body language shouts
Enough
Cotton balls decorating
Dormant stunted ash
A mockery of a Mississippi
Country scene
Last year's carcasses
Of reeds and cattails
Dun evidence of a memory
Of green
The road a wet
Lifeless tunnel
Early Spring is a dismal event

Terse lines. Sums up the feeling of driving in the dismal season.

Not a very enjoyable roadtrip by the sounds of it. Each line is like the noise of another road section joint. Great descriptions.

You've summed it up comprehensively.

Indeed poetic lines, but to me, I feel you are missing the open sea, the real freedom where there is no boredom. Very visual poem.

"Unwanted snow/ Incumbering the pines" is beautiful both rhythmically and verbally. It is of such delights that poetry is made!
