Soon

Remember how we watched the wedding party
Pose for pictures on the cliff beside the waterfall?
We laughed about the way the brother of the groom
Seemed so attracted to the bride that he'd forget
To step aside for photos of the two of them,
And she seemed taken to him, too, perhaps
More so than to the groom. We had so much fun
With them, and, later, paddling canoes, and,
Later, eating take-out Chinese food beside
A parking lot. We chattered with such gaiety
While walking the Champs Elysees, inside
The catacombs, and wreathed in steam together
In a hot tub in (of course) Las Vegas, nearly naked,
Very happy. Too bad, mostly we're apart. I miss
You, J, and being happy, something I'm not, here
Alone. I'm saving money now, so I can come up
To see you again. Let's drive back to the waterfall,
Or even to the parking lot, or fly to Paris. I don't
Care; wherever we can laugh.
