No Reason to be Concerned
When the apocalypse came, we couldn'tBe sure that it had. No one said that it had.
The newspapers noted that layoffs were
Coming. Executives stood up on daises,
Telling reporters that, actually, nothing
Was wrong. The layoffs were needed
To “right-size” facilities, maximize profits
And dividend yields. Elected officials
All echoed their words. The nation was
Prosperous. Sure, there were wars, to
The west, to the east, to the south and
The north, but when was it otherwise?
We didn't know. The Treasury proved
To be empty. The Chinese arrived,
Borne by ships ringed with Caucasian
Skulls, and the wars were called off,
And the slaughters began, and it got
To be hard to obtain enough food.
Rumors on web sites suggested
That all had been lost, and that we
Were now faced with apocalypse.
Newspapers, however, said things
Were fine, and our newly-named
Leaders agreed.
