I breathe in deeply
the stillness that is,
at last here,

The day has been honey sweet
Stickiness on the air
Dripping beyond tolerance

Too hot and bothered for food earlier
Now is the perfect time
For marmite sandwiches

I laugh when I remember my belief
That our worlds were so different that
I thought marmite needed explaining

That Worcestershire sauce
And Edinburgh
Needed pronunciation rules explained

I must have seemed odd
Stepping off the plane
With family in tow
( Mary Poppins would fill with pride)

But for it all
We are better people
And we came away in debt

And I can't begin to find the words
That didn't find me then
But, expectation, joy, relief, well, you get the picture

But one, has come of late
And your humble heart is too shy to say
But, "teacher", probably covers it

I hear you laughing Boyo
How I wish I could see those eyes
Let alone the snapping turtles

To friendship
And the crucial alignment of circumstance -
Ah bugger you go
To you.

Marie Cadavieco The PoetBay support member heart!
What a lovely piece, full of heavy atmosphere, it captures the lethargy of a humid day, then the relief of evening. it reveals the appreciation of friendship but leaves much to the imagination. It says just enough to awaken the imagination. Very pleasurable.

You may be right about the marmite.

I hope this doesn't go unappreciated. I suspect it won't.
