Class Act, Take Two

Luxury now, in an age of privation.
The statements from mutual funds
Have arrived, each one showing
That thousands of dollars are gone.
Let's rethink our escape to the Costa
del Sol. Second best, we can stay
In Nebraska and order Chinese. Order
Anything. My card will pay. We will
Dine out of doors with premixed
Margaritas, and gobble our beef
And our shrimp, and pretend that
This latest catastrophe isn't so awful.
We're still alive. We're not truly
Impoverished. Luxury, we'll say,
Is a state of mind, and now, drunk
On the deck, with our appetites
Sated, life is survivable. Privation
Is something somebody else has
To face.
