I Won't Waste My Time

Even after this disaster passes, I won't
Work with you. The world won't be saved
Your way. No exposes or stern polemics,
Demonstrations, visits to your legislator,
Arguments in courts of law, will place
The slightest strain on what you'd like
To break. Those fine white faces still
Will rule, rising up like lethal flowers
Out of business suits and cassocks,
Polo shirts and judges' robes, backed up
By beneficiaries, toadies, even those,
Like you, who shake their fists and shout
For change, but follow all their rules.
The great colossus stands, secure,
And will until a thing which hasn't
Yet been born, appears, and grows,
And topples it. Do as you like. Go
Wave your sign. If you don't get arrested,
You'll be sent back home (which may
Hurt worse), not having altered anything.
When you are done, you can come here
To share this plot the great colossus
Cannot see and, therefore, hasn't reached.
