Just After Ten
Her pearl necklace glows, as if it'sCaptured all the light that comes in
From the dining room. She speaks,
A gentle, husky purr, a gift received
From cigarettes. What she is saying
Is my gift. “There's no one near. You
Needn't leave. Let's go out on the balcony.
I'll smoke, and we can drink our wine.”
“And afterwards?” “We'll have to see.
I said you needn't leave.”
