Heroes
A title's cheaper than a check, and, so,Like all those ghetto kids who fight
Their wars in far off countries, we store
Clerks are heroes now. We brave
The prospect of disease to bring them
Disinfectant wipes and toilet paper.
They say, “thanks,” sometimes,
But, mostly, they just grab the goods
And go back to their homes on golf
Course fairways, man-made lakes.
If they get sick, they have insurance.
If we do, well, we'll just see. Though
We've been labeled heroes lately, we still
Aren't entitled to live lives of dignity.
