Perspective
We flatter the coronavirus, hiding, horror-stricken,From it in our disinfected homes. Pandemic!
Slaughterer of thousands, sickener of millions
More, and there's no question it's been tough
On our poor species. Even so, it can't be called
The greatest scourge. Another's killing far more
Pigs, and one has destroyed untold chickens.
Bees die by the millions, too, for unknown reasons,
And, of course, by means of poisons, garbage,
Car and plant exhaust, and overfishing, overuse
Of water, we have done more harm, completely
Wiped out many species. This one paltry virus
Hasn't yet disturbed too many things. The record
Still pronounces us the deadliest of plagues.
