It Suits Us Like an Old Pair of Slippers
Fascism has an enduring appeal to almostEveryone. What's not to like if you're safely
Cocooned in a dominant group? You want
Order. You don't want your privileges
Challenged by noisy complainers from
Alien groups. Throw them in jail!
Beat them and kill them! Rise and salute
When the goon squad goes by, and we do,
Almost all of us: pale-skinned Americans,
Burmese and Chinese, and Hindu Indians,
Israeli Jews, and Turks, and Hutus. All
Of them claim that they're fans of democracy.
Maybe they are. Their majorities rule,
But, with the guns blazing, the clubs being
Swung, it's clear they like fascism, too.
