Democracy Sucks

Let us consider the relative merits of progress
Versus the public will. Reformers will come.
They'll be killed or ignored. There's an almost
Endless list of names to indicate that this is so:
Gandhi, King, Arbenz, Lumumba, also Allende,
So many figures wiped away by the forces
Of stasis, and who survived? Whose efforts
Brought progress? No one who played
The democracy game. It's rigged and rotten,
As anyone sees, and only those leaders
Who've torn up the ballots and shut down
The polls, Lenin and Mao, Castro and Chavez,
Have brought relief to the beaten and broken.
“Freedom”'s a tool which rich people use
To keep poor people poor and their nests
Nicely feathered. It takes an army, and prisons,
And seizures, to privilege progress and greater
Equality over the advertised and odious,
Ignorant public will.
