Journeymen and -women
There's no snap to the ways that they write,And nothing compelling in what they
Are writing about. They're just being poets,
Doing their jobs at their desks in their
Offices in-between classes. Poetry's what
Gives them money for food, and they do it
With that sort of passionless doggedness
Butchers and bricklayers, engineers have,
And the things they produce, like those
Made by these others, are useful in some
Sense, but common and dull. Consequently,
Nobody remembers their names or reads
What they wrote more than once.
