Hidden in Plain Sight
There are conspiracies, Bill. You're right,But they're not the ones which fill your head.
There are no commies, no leftists, no
Anarchists, laying in wait in your basement
To kill you. Even the liberals don't have
Guns; only the rightists and racists do,
And the cops, of course. They're mixed
Up with those groups, and, though
Their sorts hatch their shares of
Conspiracies, mostly they're harmless,
Just morons at play. The real plotting
Takes place in boardrooms and hallways
Where those who have so much already
Call people they've put into office
To tell them to bring down their taxes
And alter the laws, so that they can obtain
Even more. The greatest conspirators
Don't meet in darkness. They don't
Skulk or whisper. They rule the world,
And they plan to do so forever, in part,
By pointing you toward some harmless
Nonentities who don't endanger your life.
