Baba Marta came today and decorated us with martenitsas to be white and laughed at reddish red.Baba Marta will visit young and old today to give them joy and health.
Baba Marta is an ancient tradition in Bulgaria for health and prosperity.
On the first of March, many centuries ago, a hawk brought good news to the then ruler of old Bulgaria that a child had been born to him while he was at war.
On the way, the hawk was wounded, and the white ribbon turned from his blood to scarlet red and white.
From this day, martenitsas are made every year, and they announce the coming of spring.
Congratulations, Baba Marta, to all young and old, be alive and healthy.
