Tropical

The boat rocked steadily, tethered,
In the sun. With the humidity, I
Sweated briefly, fell asleep, and made
A lovely afternoon of what had been
One, anyway. A day's flight from
The daily cares of home had brought
Me buoyancy beside another world's
Ocean, beneath palms, those hackneyed
Trees, which symbolize escape, at least,
To those who don't live under them,
Attending to the motel rooms, the meals,
The boats which gently rock a visitor
To sleep.
