The One
What might have been... I can't be heartbroken. She passed, so quickly, two children in tow,
Through the toy aisles, places I rarely go,
And I glanced at her. She was truly quite lovely,
But, more to the point, she smiled at me,
Not politely or meekly. She smiled as if she
Was viewing the one she always had been
Seeking, and I, similarly, was staggered.
I turned, a mistake. She was gone. She's
Not apt to be back, and, while physicists,
Mystics and others consider the thought
That this universe isn't the only one among
Many, I find myself grieving. Somewhere,
Perhaps, we are able to love, but it seems
That it won't happen here.
