Calmer Water
Give me an hour. I'll disappear intoThe haze down there, by the Platte.
You won't find me. For now, I'm
Finished with being found, finished
With playing my part in humanity,
Witness, participant, willing or not,
In a mad, rushing stream of outrageous
Atrocities. I will, instead, search for
Peace at the edge of a life-giving river,
Soiled by humans, poisoned by them,
But, nonetheless, healthier, better for all,
Than the torrent which tears at me here.
