Time doesn't really go backward.  It can't.
Dreadful phenomena seem to suggest
That we're hurtling into the past, but we
Aren't.  Teachers are told that they can't
Discuss bigotry, cannot describe any forms
Of existence which deviate from what were
Once labeled norms.  The wrong sorts
Of voters are kept from the polls,
And pregnancy's not something women
Can choose.  So much force is applied
To try to bring back what was taken for
Granted an eon ago, but the old ways
Are over.  They won't be restored.
The clock moves relentlessly on.
