sunday mornings

one of my treats was making breakfast

for everyone on sunday mornings

i called my eggs and toast and bacon

my number 2 special   and i'd call pancakes

my number 2 special   and i'd call yogurt

with granola and blueberries

my number 2 special   marketa

yenny   colin   colin's grandfather   all

at the table enjoying a number 2 special

the house rich with the aroma of cooking

of course it was likely that colin

had already been at work since sunrise

bringing with him the aroma of dust and dawn

and colin's grandfather would have already

been on the patio reading yesterday's paper

bringing in the aroma of coffee

but marketa would sleep in on sunday mornings

and i would rouse her   and the aroma

of a wakening marketa fresh from slumber

was intoxicating to me   my number 1 special

I love how your poems feel lived in. The characters you write about feel so real. I really envy that.

I agree with the other comments. You've captured that Sunday feeling for sure. I relate. Top poeting is evident when the author, the words and the audience connects. 👏👏

This is my number 1 special of the day. A really charming and 'homely' poem. Speaks of love in so many forms. Love it.
