Silent Tears

Silent tears
are the hardest
to endure,
more painful to watch
as they trickle slowly
down your cheeks.

The pain runs deep,
burrowing its way
into
the centre of my soul,
a perfect storm
brewing in my chest.

I am powerless,
yet determined.
I will offer up my heart,
sacrifice my breath
to keep you
from hurting.

I want it to be me,
I could endure, no matter the pain,
to stop you crying
those agonizing tears
as they trickle ever so slowly
down your cheeks.
