Defcon Four

In a another galaxy,
The other side of space.
Their lives another populace,
Quite unlike the human race.

A race so far advanced,
They live harmoniously.
As old as time,
When time begun.

They were well known,
Amongst the star's.
As the geminids,
They often travelled far.

They lived on Geminoad,
A planet not to dissimilar
To our own.
War was not a subject,
That they themselves
had known.

They tried to show others,
How war had caused destruction.
To planets just like theirs,
Not many listened or even cared.

Deciding to save one last planet,
Without trepidation or fear.
Alas they all burnt up when,
They entered into our stratosphere.

The earth had seen the finality of war,
As the powers to be were waiting.
To push the final button on defcon four,
Someone somewhere glanced into space.

Watching the meteor shower,
If only someone gave us a second chance.
For life instead of just a couple of hours,
Then maybe mankind would survive.
